I used the plant my friend Gecko gave me for Christmas as a prop today. It's a little bamboo thing in blue Orbeez or whatever those squishy little spheres are called. I endured the cold for this picture. Amazon took it from the front door inside the warm house.
Have a good last day of 2015, readers!

Granny is Cool
Everyone has noticed the new Gucci season. It includes embroidery, brocade, bowl cuts, 70's glasses, crazy colors, and berets. They have officially made granny-style cool and joined the ranks of Miu Miu in that respect. I absolutely love it.
In 2014 Gucci was strictly this conservative, brightly colored, slightly preppy/classic luxury brand and now it seems they have taken hold of an interesting new change-that's part of what I like so much. That a cool thing can change and become even cooler.
My favorite things have to either be the dresses, glasses, or bags. Gone are the beige logo-splattered bags and here are some seriously awesome looking embroidered ones, and crazy brightly colored ones.

Slice of Pie: Pumpkin Pie
Yes, today is Pumpkin pie. I dunno. I guess I'm just not feeling 100%.
I think rough days during vacation shouldn't be allowed. Those days where you just wake up forgetful, the acne battle isn't in your favor, and your favorite jeans were just retired because they are too small? Those days? Yeah, they shouldn't be a thing during my short span of holly jolly freedom. I'll just waste it feeling sorry for myself. I have a mullet now, I'm shy and awkward, and I can't go outside, but I'll be okay. I can make today good.
I'm sorry for complaining, readers. I guess this is just a post abolishing (I had a dream last night where I looked up what that means in a dictionary) Happy Blogger Syndrome. You know those blogs you read where everything is just so dandy and glossy and aesthetically pleasing 24/7? That's a prime example of HBS. I think it's good to be vulnerable. I apologize if it is at your entertainment's expense.
This is Bean's favorite joke right now- to cheer y'all up.

I have heard this joke so so so many times over the last week. You don't even know
Anyway I hope you all have a holly jolly break and a happy New Year!

Slice of life: Most of the pie
i just watched most of Moonrise Kingdom for the first time last night. Most of it meaning I skipped some less than appropriate parts. Here are my praising thoughts and likes on this aesthetically delightful Wes Anderson masterpiece.
Suzy's wardrobe and makeup of course. It's set in the 60's. I love the 60's. The pastel colored shifts, bold eyebrows, bright blue eye shadow, and don't care messy hair- beauty at it's finest. I honestly wish I could walk around in pale pink, blue, and yellow dresses all day while trotting across my island, but alas. Michigan is a cold snowy devil all the time.
The quotability of nearly every line. 'I love you, but you don't know what you're talking about.', 'Jiminy cricket, he flew the coup' Honestly, who wouldn't want to put that on a t-shirt? That elevates Moonrise Kingdom closer to the ranks of movies like Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite- the dialogue is so cleverly stupid you just want to keep hearing it.
It's actually pretty funny. Between scenes including Suzy trying to take down a former classmate and the khaki scouts talking about being men, I was laughing pretty hard (remember my silent, tear-streaked laugh?) It's clever. It's humor isn't the kind you would find in most movies- it's subtle, ironic, and at times completely ridiculous.
I'm not even going to start on the cinematography of Moonrise Kingdom. I won't be able to stop. This is a truly good looking movie. I'm glad I saw it.
Style Analysis: 90's Hipster
I don't like the word grunge. However much of a thing it was, it's just a weird sounding word that I don't like to say. Like the word 'rural'. I just don't like it.
All the same, I really do like that era of style. After the neons, power dressing, abstract earrings, etc. of the 80's, a definitely more casual and relaxed style emerged. It was wearing flannels, boots, and ripped jeans. It was from bands like Nirvana, which inspired designers like Marc Jacobs, which caught onto people like all teens of the time.
Flannels.
Relaxed, warm, plentiful in Goodwills everywhere- they're perfect!
2. Boots- cool shoes in general- whether it be lace up combats or dirty converse. Nothing to nice or polished.
3. Graphic t-shirts- Come on. We all have these. Those old t-shirts of our favorite tv show, band, or an old sweater with some snarky meme on it. Saying something for the world to hear is a the core of grunge style
There's more. But here are just some more images for you to take inspiration from.

Slice of life: Definitely NOT pumpkin
I hate pumpkin pie. Quite a lot. I don't apologize- I tried it again this Thanksgiving to give it a second go, but no way jose. That's not the life for me.
I woke up semi-early this morning so I could get some posts done before I have to be responsible. I actually kind of like waking up early. I've been waking up at 5:19 a.m for the past 4 months or so, and I've gotten used to it. Though I'm not a fan of waking up before the sun, I like watching it rise on the ride to seminary. There is honestly nothing like waking up early, wrapping up in a blanket or hoodie, having some herbal tea, and just watching stuff happen outside. I would be outside right now if it weren't freezing. It's reported that there is going to be a huge sleet storm coming our way. Not looking forward to that.
It's that time of year where there isn't really time. The days fade in and out of each other. Honestly, most of the time I forget there is even a month that goes on after Christmas. It just seems like there is Christmas itself, then bam. New Years. Or that's how it should be. This time is often forgotten. It's like a black hole that no one remembers beforehand or afterwards. But I will spend this limbo time well, I hope. I don't remember what I've done during this time in the past (if that doesn't prove my point...) so I'll just make something up. I'll come up with a project or hang out with friends or just hang out with my family or something.
I'll have to be going soon. I hope all of you readers learn to spend your time well.

Things we love: Lake Wobegon
When I first got into listening to Welcome to Night Vale back in eighth grade, my dad and I were talking about it and chatting about radio, etc. He told me that Night Vale sounded like the really bizarre child of this show called Lake Wobegon. It had a cast of regular characters (Father Wilmer/Old Woman Josie) it had familiar places (The Chatterbox Cafe/ Big Rico's) and they both covered whatever news was going on in their beloved little towns ( Snow on the fourth of July/ The unraveling of the Universe) Lake Wobegon is a fictional town in Minnesota, and the host Garrison Kieler tells stories he remembers or made up, and new ones that might be happening somewhere. It starts out the same every time 'It's been a _______ week in Lake Wobegon, Minnesota, my home town, out there on the edge of the prairie.' and it ends the same every time: 'Well, that's the news from Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong,
all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average."
Lake Wobegon is just more power to small towns. As in Night Vale, maybe the news isn't always great, nor do they like it or enjoy it all the time. Regardless, the characters have a fierce sense of loyalty to that normal-ness that they might not like. Not quoted directly but an episode from Night Vale said 'This is our town, and it is terrible, but it is ours. And we are willing to fight for it'. Lake Wobegon is a radio masterpiece, and it makes you think about your family, seasons, being a prophet, how well you know the people you know, the funny things you don't know about the people you don't know, and of course, rhubarb pie.
I suggest a trip to the library to get a couple of cassettes or cds. I suggest thinking about your childhood and how much of it is made up by you. I suggest thinking more about your small town, even if it isn't that small, how you can make it seem so.
I hope you have a relaxing break, readers
*Apologies if this post makes little sense- it's early on a Winter break day-I'm sacrificing for you folks, but my brain isn't 100% here yet.

Style Analysis: The New Bohemian
I think I'm subconsciously moving through all the major 'style tribes' right now, or something like that. Today is the modern bohemian. Gone are the layers of fringe, suede, and feathers and in come colorful layers of band t-shirts, cool sunglasses, and flowers that are far from the Halloween party store's synthetic fabric 'Hippie costumes'. The new kind of boho is styled more towards a person's likes rather than an army of wannabe Vanessa Hudgens'. It's colorful, expressive, and would be comfortable outside, riding a bike, listening to music, at school, or while hunched over a computer (currently me). It's commonly found at summer music festivals, outside, or by a campfire.
Some essentials to this look are classic florals on dresses, shirts, shorts, jewelry, or in hair. Darker color schemes lend a more ethereal creepiness to this otherwise dreamy look.
Artfully layered jewelry is another big one. I'm usually a minimalist when it comes to jewelry, so I'm challenging myself with learning the perfect mix and match that pro bohos have already mastered. Gold, silver, copper, wood, or otherwise- make sure they come in the same basic color families, and the lengths aren't all the same. Either go palette specific, all metal, or full blown rainbow: all look pretty cool.
Cool sunglasses in any shape, natural makeup, and awesome hair are the best ways to accesorie, otherwise it's totally up to you!

December 25
Merry Christmas, everybody! I hope you all are having a great holiday break- grateful for all my homies out there.
Our Christmas has not been a white one, if you can't tell by the green grass and sunshine behind me. Don't let that fool you though, it's freezing outside. I only realized you can't see what I'm wearing until I got inside again, and I was too lazy and not wearing shoes, so I didn't want to go back out.
I'm wearing a new My Neighbor Totoro shirt I just got today with a goodwill cardigan and thrifted J. Crew pants. I repeat, no shoes. Also no makeup. Christmas is not the kind of day to sit around being vain in, I think. I'm not going anywhere. Except the internet, of course, to greet all of my wonderful little homie readers out there. This is our first Christmas, guys! I should do some special thing like all the t.v shows do, but I forgot. Sorry. Here are my gifts to you: aesthetically pleasing pictures.
