Things we like: Gravity Falls

It's no mystery (GET IT?) that we love Gravity Falls. Maybe it's the action figures of Grunkle Stan, Mable, Bill, and Waddles perching on my bookshelf that gives it away, maybe it's the iconic theme song I play on the piano 24/7
me playing with my action figures.
But who doesn't like it? (I understand some don't, but guys...) I consider it Good Art. There are only a few fandoms out thee where the fan is so closely connected to the creator and Gravity Falls is one of them ( Along with Doctor Who/Sherlock- Moffat, All Emo Bands and their children, and Night Vale- Fink & Cranor) Alex Hirsch based Gravity Falls on the adventures he and his twin sister had on their visits to Oregon. I don't know if there were gnomes or bottomless pits or mechanical sea monsters in his childhood, but even if there weren't it all sounds cooler than my childhood.
Gravity Falls was one of my first fandoms. I remember seeing an ad for it on Disney XD and thinking 'that looks cool' but assuming I wouldn't be allowed to watch it because Soos said 'butt' in the commercial, as in 'butt island' (look dudes) But I was wrong. My parents were chill with it and are still chill with me singing The Little Lambey song as I fold laundry.

As funny as Gravity Falls is, it's surprising in a few ways. Like movies Napolean Dynamite and Nacho Libre not only is it hilarious and cult like but it looks really good. There is a good art directing going on to give a shot something cool or unique and to make it look like something more than just a funny quote (that's confusing, forgive me) I started watching Gravity Falls when I was 12 or so, and that's when I first started really noticing that kind of thing. I mainly noticed it in Gravity Falls where there is a specific 'look' to it.
This was my first experience with an aesthetic. I didn't know the word for it at the time, but whatever it was that made the pine trees, shacks, and cheap things of Michigan seem cooler I was all over. A run down ferris wheel at the fair wasn't run down any more. It was 1. beautiful in some weird old sad way 2. A great photo op
Is it weird to say that I learned something key to my interests and personality from a cartoon? Don't answer that, I'm content with my opinion. But I'm not going to lie. I learned how to look at things longer and in a different way that has affected me and this blog.

I also learned that I can do the best Lazy Susan and Lil' Gideon impressions of all time.
Have some deer teeth, readers
