Does anyone remember that one picture book by Tomie Depaola? Simple Pictures are Best? I remember that book for many reasons. 1. Because it was a childhood book. I always had good books to read when I was little and still do for the most part. 2. When I was going through my mismatched phase in seventh grade (my parents weren't a fan but I thought I looked great)
Anyway, this post isn't about that. This post is about actually simple pictures. I don't know how long ago this collection was ( I honestly cannot keep track of time or designers these days, sheesh) but the first time I ever saw a Jill Sanders ad it was a simple picture. It was so... clean and minimalist yet colorful and eye catching. There wasn't much clogging the picture or the runway so the clothes were a spotlight. Here are some of my favorite aspects of their 2015 thing.
First of all can I say POCKETS? I am so in love with all things that have pockets, not just because I like to look hip and cool (when have I ever been that, though?) but because I'm kind of a pack rat. I like to hide things away, and if I haven't ranted about this yet I will now: girl pockets- why are they so small?? I've seen the pockets of guys at my school- they're huge! I had a friend in band who fit two burritos per pocket when he got hungry during practice. Two burritos! I can barely fit my phone in my pocket! These pockets not only look delightfully deep enough to carry Taco Bell (never mind on that actually, their meat looks like it came out of a caulking gun) but it does really add that extra layer of cool. This whole collection was pretty chill looking with it's simple colors and minimalist silhouette.
I like the solid colors. I like the colors in general. Colors are nice. The palette (let me get all nerdy art student on you now) of cool colors like cobalt, emerald, pale green, white, and even black are all so SPRINGY. I really want spring right now. These colors cheer me up and inspire me for future SPRINGY outfits.
Again with the shoes. Eventually you guys will get tired of me talking about shoes. I know I won't though. I really like the solid colored shoes with the matching socks that actually look like tall 60s style futuristic boots. Very Jetsons. Very retro. Very should be in my closet.
How can something so seemingly normal-ish be so cool and new? So few people decide to take what seems like 'the easy' route, because that path has been taken before. Then they end up with too much and it's too crazy. I love crazy, but I also love simple pictures. The silhouettes, the clean lines, the SPRINGY colors- it's all very refreshing.
Have a hopefully SPRINGY week, readers.
