This post is spawned out of one simple thing: Character shoes. Just yesterday during Comedy of Errors rehearsal, the costumers came in and awarded us our show shoes! My part is the simple exaggerated role of the fool, so I just get plain dance shoes, but nothing in rehearsal has ever made me more excited!
There is just something so magical abut wearing a costume. That is why Halloween is my favorite Holiday (yes, I still go trick-or-treating.) You can be as crazy or over the top as you want to be! You can be a whole different thing or person- you can step out of your own life and walk a day in another's character shoes.
Even the clothes we wear daily project something about ourselves to the world. Of course we shouldn't judge each other cruelly based on appearances, but it is by the way people dress and act that we choose whether to seek them out or avoid them.
I change my mind a lot. A lot. So an opportunity to be a new person every day is a necessity for me. I will always be myself on the inside and as much as society hates it you can't put a label on who I am. We are all so diverse that we can't be pegged down. None of us is so specific as the Jock, the Goth Kid, the Nerd, etc. "All the world is a stage" is it not? Why not change costumes and be new? We are not tied down to who we were five minutes ago.
"The debate over whether people can change is an interesting one for me to observe because it seems like all I ever do is change. All I ever do is learn from my mistakes so I don't make the same ones again. Then I make new ones. I know people can change because it happens to me a little by little every day. Every day I wake up as someone slightly new. Isn't it wild and intriguing and beautiful to think that every day we are new?" -Taylor Swift
