You know how you have those friends on facebook who just post endless pictures of their adorable cat or dog? I feel like I have reached that level, but it's a fish, not a lovable furry animal, and if I tried to take a legit selfie with Billy, either I would drown or he would die so. Hmm. Maybe not quite the same. You know you all love him though. He's Prism's mascot.

My day has been pretty quiet. It's the first day back from break, and I'm pretty sure all of my teachers are just as unimpressed with being here that I am. One of them (science class) didn't even show up so we got a sub. I have been devoting my time whilst not doing homework (nggg.) or blogging to catching up on fandoms I have been missing out on, such as the extra Sherlock episodes, MLP episodes, extra Harry Potter books, (FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM PEOPLE) and whatever you would call Hamilton or Gravity Falls fans.

Things we like: World of Geekcraft

This book. This book is the bridge. The bridge between the worlds of geekery (a special intense geekery) and the crafting dimension. Dripping with pop-culture references for nearly every fandom and how-to's for them as well, this book is for what I call the maker-nerds. Those nerds who put every inch of their soul into their cosplay game, who spend time making a cardboard TARDIS, who paint their own personalized My Little Pony characters. Maker-nerds, this book is for you.

I wish I had found this blessed book in seventh grade- that was my intense 'crafting era'. That era was covered in yarn, glue, cardboard, craft paper, and glitter. I was essentially Mable from Gravity Falls.

Even if you don't craft, check out this book. It's got plenty of easy little things in it like making toddler Harry Potter costumes and iPhone elements cozies that will be the perfect gateway drug to full on needle felting, knitting, and collaging. You will see.

My first outfit photo in a while. Wearing flannel- pretty much all I want to wear anymore. All the snow is melted- as you can tell from the background. I am edgy around what I wear right now. I'm in the mood where not only the clothes need to be cozy, they need to be ugly. Meh. Maybe it's a phase.
I'm planning this Saturday to be an artsy-fartsy day of painting, drawing, collaging, bleh, bleh, ,bleh in between sessions of general conference. I usually do notes in my journal from the talks and doodle in the borders. Maybe I'll upload some pictures of those?

No more pie

I've decided to cancel the pie posts. Well, not cancelling but renaming it. Forcing myself to come up with more creative, less repetitive titles.
But, ugh. That will be hard. I am slightly resistant to the change that I, myself, am enforcing, gah.
Others things that I want to change- my grammar and spelling. I'm a good speller, and I inherited my grammar-thing from my English major parents. But after Amazon took some time looking over my posts and pointing out all of my spelling mistakes I decided there must be change. No longer will there be a fish on a 'plague' but a fish on a 'plaque'.
Also, I'm looking for ideas for new post types. I'm thinking I may start doing blog reviews- writing ideas and thoughts on some famous and rare blogs out there. If you want yours featured, comment the address and you may hear about yourself! And if you have any ideas of what you would like to hear about, feel free to comment that as well.

In Defense of the Basic

 

I don't mean basics like a white cardigan or little black dress (though I would defend them if needed)I mean the derogatory term for 'mainstream' people. What's wrong with mainstream? Of course, sacrificing your standards and individuality to fade in with the crowd is terrible, but what about people who do like that kind of thing and that's how they express themselves? So their version of unique is mass produced, what are we going to do?
 We as 'alternative kids' are stuck in the idea that the 'basic kids' are evil.Why? A legion of stereotyping movies? The way they live is simply different than ours?

A while ago in band class while having a free day I was talking to this clarinet player I wanted to get to know because of her flannels, Twenty One Pilots shirts, and dyed hair. We were talking about the sections when she told me she hated most all other clarinets. "They're all just a bunch of basic preppy white girls" she said. What is wrong with being any of those things?
Being basic? The whole reason I haven't been doing fashiony stuff much is because I need to be 'basic' for  a while and I don't want to put forth effort.So I wear sweaters and pants.Am I now cookie-cutter, unoriginal, and 'basic', a term used like a swear word to the 'unique'? Maybe. No, but who cares? It's not meant to be used like that.

Being preppy? There is a stereotype around 'preppy kids'- that they're all stuck up, rich, rude, bleh,bleh. Whatever. Maybe so, me and preppy people are like that, but their fashion choices don't reflect their attitude. Those two thins just happen to coincide. There are plenty of rude alternative kids.

Being a white girl? Just putting this out there: she herself was white. Please don't use skin color or gender in a way to offend.
Thinking about this, I thought of the girls she was talking about in her section. I knew some of them. They were nice to me (upperclassmen being kind to a freshman? Thumbs up in my book!) They were stylish. And a few of them I knew like Twenty One Pilots.

I've done a post in the defense of the weird. Weird is cool. Being basic is cool if that's how you roll. AS important as I find expressing yourself visually in that sense, I don't think that, that should be linked to stereotypes. This is the defense of those who typically don't get that. Be what you need to be when you need to be it, whether that is weird, basic, or undefined. Be a collage.
You never know who may like the same music as you  based on their outfit, readers.

First One Awake Tunes

The window next to my computer had a pretty light coming through it.

For the most part, I like being the first one awake in the house. It feels more like I am alone to just do my thing, but with the safety of having more trusted people around. I still have to be very quiet to make sure I don't wake anyone up, but I get up anyway. I like morning light- it's got that rosy rising color that happens in the evening, but it's got a different feel about it. Morning magic hour is much different from evening magic hour.
