Things we love: Lumberjanes

Our local comic shop, Collector's Corner always supplies cute little obscure comics that I LOVE and this is my latest discovery: Lumberjanes! It's a kid-friendly (Bean loves them) series about a dangerous c amp for girls where they learn maybe not so necessary skills about how to defeat the supernatural instead of how to put up a tent. It follows a particular group of goofy and diverse girls. It's funny, pop culture laden, and very well drawn. It has a very indie simple-ish drawing style and a good story. Though at my summer camp we didn't have to brave packs of speaking wolves or mind-control, the spirit of camp and the sister hood of a cabin is sweet and makes it all the better. The full book of all the issues is actually in stores- though I'm still waiting for Collector's Corner to deliver it to me (It's been weeks. Weeks!)

Accesories I love!

I'm OBSESSED with little buttons and patches right now and that's what makes this backpack the COOLEST! Plus check out this girl's socks, am I right?
I’m kind of obsessed with fun novelty bags but my collection is getting out of hand. Any idea where I can find some super cute wall hooks to help me organize this mess?
I really love these kitschy little novelty bags. They could never carry much more than my phone and some lipstick, but what more do I really need? I'm particularly enchanted by the Unicorn tears cup, the watermelon cross body, and the straw cat bag. KAWAII
Geometric Necklace / Boho Necklace / Wooden Necklace/ Colorful Necklace. $18.00, via Etsy.
One thing I always like to add to my outfits, casual or not, is really colorful jewelry. I make a lot of it myself and it's such a unique way to show off what I'm feeling. These geometric necklaces remind me of something I would have made in kindergarten and I adore them for it!

Cat ears beanie, just because.
During winter in the cold heart of Michigan I love to wear a hat to keep my exposed ears warm ( The only bad part of a pixie cut...) During the blazing agony of summer, I still like to wear a hat just because they are cool. I have a knit headband similar to this cute beanie that has studded little kitty ears on it. CATS FOR LIFE

Costume Changes

This post is spawned out of one simple thing: Character shoes. Just yesterday during Comedy of Errors rehearsal, the costumers came in and awarded us our show shoes! My part is the simple exaggerated role of the fool, so I just get plain dance shoes, but nothing in rehearsal has ever made me more excited!

There is just something so magical abut wearing a costume. That is why Halloween is my favorite Holiday (yes, I still go trick-or-treating.) You can be as crazy or over the top as you want to be! You can be a whole different thing or person- you can step out of your own life and walk a day in another's character shoes.
Even the clothes we wear daily project something about ourselves to the world. Of course we shouldn't judge each other cruelly based on appearances, but it is by the way people dress and act that we choose whether to seek them out or avoid them.
I change my mind a lot. A lot. So an opportunity to be a new person every day is a necessity for me. I will always be myself on the inside and as much as society hates it you can't put a label on who I am. We are all so diverse that we can't be pegged down. None of us is so specific as the Jock, the Goth Kid, the Nerd, etc. "All the world is a stage" is it not? Why not change costumes and be new? We are not tied down to who we were five minutes ago.
"The debate over whether people can change is an interesting one for me to observe because it seems like all I ever do is change. All I ever do is learn from my mistakes so I don't make the same ones again. Then I make new ones. I know people can change because it happens to me a little by little every day. Every day I wake up as someone slightly new. Isn't it wild and intriguing and beautiful to think that every day we are new?"     -Taylor Swift

I'm a Mormon!

Recently I have been reading a lot of great blogs by Mormon teens (http://mormon-teen.blogspot.com/ and  http://feelmysunlight.blogspot.com/- I love these people!) and these girls have inspired me to do my own post on my religion.
I am a Mormon and I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I only have one mother, I don't hate gay people, and I really do have a testimony of the Book of Mormon. At school and other venues I am occasionally persecuted for my beliefs but it doesn't really hurt me anymore. I will stick to my standards despite what other people say.
If you remember Readers, at the beginning of this blog I said that I would write about whatever came into my head, right? That's why in the future you might see more posts that include my spiritual thoughts. I understand that probably a majority of my readers are not LDS members and I am not trying to shove this down your throats. This is a part of who I am, and hey it is my blog so no hating please. I only want to share a little bit of what makes me happy with the world!
I would like to remind you Readers that it is a little scary to share something like this sometimes. Please be respectful of my opinions and I will be respectful of yours.

And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God (Mosiah 2:17 The Book of Mormon)

Notification for our lovely Readers

         Our Dear Lovely Readers,
Mandarin and 1, Amazon have noticed  that I almost never write anything. Though Mandarins writing is entertaining and refreshing, that's all you get. So we have made a decision that I will step back from the writing part of the blog and join the promoting and management part. Of course I will be writing occasionally to let you know how we plan on moving Prism forward or just to thank all of you our Readers for reading, it means a lot to us.
On another note, we plan to start interacting with our audience by possible asking a question a week or a day or just randomly and you all would respond in the comments and maybe we would pick a couple of our favorite answers and repost them. So ready lets try it. Question of the day

If you were raised by a group of animals what would it be and why?
please respond in the comments below.
Mandarin- the majestic platypus because hey, they're adorable.
Amazon- Giraffes, because they understand me.

Summer Camp and Other Things

I just got back from an epic week of Girls Camp, readers!! If I haven't mentioned this before, I'm a Mormon. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Every summer through our Young Women youth program we have a Girls Camp which is a spiritually centered summer camp. It is literally the best and the rest of the year revolves around it. It was immensely fun and I cried and laughed in equal measure.
A concern I have been overthinking lately is about the play I'm in. You remember how I am in The Comedy of Errors, Readers? I've been on vacation/ at camp for the past three weeks. I'm grateful that I have a minor role and am not missing too much but I still worry about how prepared I will be. There are new stage directions and parts that I have been absent for and I'm concerned that my lack of preparation will affect others. Also I'm a huge worry wart so I overthink everything.
  And now... theatre memes....
Exactly.... EPONINE'S FACE."When I told my father that Gaston Leroux wrote Phantom of the Opera, he immediately burst into song: 'No one writes like Gaston/Stages fights like Gaston/Makes you go to be with a nightlight like Gaston!'" Your dad deserves a high-five.BAHAHAthespian peacock

Style Crush: Lindsey Stirling

Lindsey Stirling, for you non-internet nerds, is a youtuber violinist who dances while she plays. She does a wonderful mixture of orchestra, dubstep, and hip hop in her music and it is ADDICTIVE to listen to and watch! In addition to her insane moves, and the fact that she is a Mormon, I totally love her style! It's so quirky and reflects her music in a wonderful way!

No Nail Polish Manicure

A while ago for reasons to embarrasing to mention here I was banned from nail polish. Still I'm a real girly girl at heart so I still needed a way to do that. So for you girls who have been banned from or just not that into polish here is a completely natural manicure!
1.Supplies
     1. Lotion
     2. Nail file and Clippers
     3. Revlon Crazy Shines
SUPPLIES
2.Make sure hands are completely clean to start off with.

3. Moisturize with lotion. Make sure to get lotion on nails and cuticles.
4. Clean undersides of nails with the nail file. Clip and file nails into a squarish oval shape. It's called a squoval (how original!!) Using a cuticle pusher gently push cuticles back if they are to long.
5. There are literally hundreds of nail buffers like this, but after trying out quite a few I found that Revlon's work the best. They are small, portable, and really effective.
6. With the Crazy Shine's rough darker side rub it all over your nail and on the tip. The nail may look cloudy or dull after this step is done properly.
7. Next flip it over to the smooth lighter side. This is the shiner side and will make your nails smooth and shiny. Follow the same steps as number six.
8. That's it! You can  take it a step further by soaking your hands in warm scented water in between steps two and three or you can run nylons or pantyhose over nail tips to make sure they are smooth. If the nylons catch on any snags smooth them out with the Crazy Shines. This Manicure takes literally under 10 minutes and is super relaxing. It keeps your nails clean and it never chips off!
Stay glamorously natural readers!

I'm back!

Heavens I haven't written in a long time! I'm sorry readers, I was on vacation for a couple weeks, and the weeks before that I was just being a lazy butt. However!  I am back! I spent two weeks in Idaho where I was born. My family and I stayed at a cabin with family and toured the areas from the beginning of our family. It was absolutely wonderful to see childhood spots in Boise that I remember and new things.
 OLD THINGS I REMEMBER
 1. The Old Train Depot- I lovingly referred to it as "The Teepoh" I would sit in front of the gardens and the koi pond for HOURS if allowed
2. The first place I ever lived-an old apartment by Boise state.
3. My first house- my dad and grandpa put up a fence around it. It seemed much taller back then.
FAVORITE NEW THINGS
1. The Boise Art Museum (BAM)- Absolutely inspiring stuff! I loved the "Language of Light" exhibit by Richard C. Elliott
2. The Anne Frank Memorial- for those who don't know, Anne Frank is my personal hero, and this human rights awareness memorial was amazing
3. BIG JUDS- I've been to a Big Juds restaurant before just not the one in Boise. FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT TRIED-TRY IT FOOLS

I love Idaho. I love the west. Though I am happy and content in Michigan I feel most at home in Idaho. I like seeing the purple silhouettes of mountains forever in the distance. I like the fact that it's okay to walk into church wearing cowboy boots and a bolo tie-not because your a hipster but because that's what people wear. I like fry sauce (Dear Michigan, why is this not a thing here?). I like the air to feel like air and not water (only Michigangsters know what I'm talking about here.) It was good to go back for a couple weeks. Even if it was the two hottest weeks of the summer over there. Eighty degrees seems tame now.
 It's good to be back!
